Fundación Telefónica Movistar

The results of 2021 were achieved at a time of great uncertainty in the country on topics of Digital Education, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Employability. However, the reactivation of the economic and social sectors offered opportunities of action for the Foundation. In this regard, efforts were intensified to fulfill the mission and value proposition of Fundación Telefónica Movistar: “to improve opportunities for the people’s development through the implementation of education, social and cultural projects adapted to the challenges of the digital world.”

During 2021, work was carried out in four focus areas:

To 1,700,202 people from 977 municipalities, of which 125 are PDET territories.

1. Digital Education Focus Area

In the Digital Education focus area (ProFuturo project, in partnership with Fundación la Caixa), initiatives were developed that contribute to closing the educational gap by enabling more Colombian children to have access to quality education, through processes involving the adoption of technology as a means to transform the educational environments into flexible, equitable and inclusive spaces, in favor of a sustainable society.

This focus area comprises the projects ProFuturo-Teacher Training (Comprehensive Model and Open Model) and Profuturo-ICT Family School.

  • The ProFuturo-Teacher Training project, which is implemented through two strategies: Comprehensive Model and Open Model, benefited 1,467,598 children. Regarding teachers, 61,686 received training, tutoring and assistance at 216 institutions throughout the country. The project covered 875 municipalities, 78% of the country’s 1,122 municipalities, 113 of which are in areas targeted by the Development Program with Territorial Approach (PDET, for the Spanish original), equivalent to 66% of the PDET territories.
  • The ProFuturo-ICT Family School project supports families in the transition towards virtual education, providing training on basic digital skills to parents and caretakers in order to get them involved in their children’s educational process, based on the appropriate use of ICT, covering topics including operation, use for personal and community well-being and taking advantage of ICT.

This program includes a version for television (“Clic Ahí”(Click There)) aimed at bringing these contents, in partnership with Computadores para Educar, to all the regions of Colombian through a channel that is accessible to all the families, even those that have no connectivity. In 2021, training and certifications were issued to 15,047 parents and caretakers from 409 Colombian municipalities, 67 of which are PDET territories.

2. Digital Employability and Enterprise Focus Area

This focus area aims to identify and improve the competencies and skills of youth and adolescents to promote their professional and personal development, to promote entrepreneurship and access to job opportunities. This focus area is comprised by the Piensa en Grande (Think Big) and Conecta Empleo (Job Connection) programs

Piensa en Grande project:

It aims to develop competencies and skills under learning models based on challenges, collaborative environments and the creation of innovative entrepreneurial projects that are suitable for the context. In 2021, the beneficiaries included 45,842 youth and adults from 101 educational institutes in 51 Colombian municipalities, 8 of which are PDET territories.

Conecta Empleo project

Offers a free digital program promoted by Fundación Telefónica Movistar to improve the digital competencies of unemployed people or people who wish to enhance their employability. The project’s platform includes 30 short courses in MOOC version, with intensities of between 30 and 40 hours. During 2021, the project covered 20,844 youth and adults from 125 Colombian municipalities, 23 of which are PDET territories. The Digital Contents strategy benefited 18,330 people who had access to the different publications.

3. Knowledge and Digital Culture Focus Area

The objective of the Knowledge and Digital Culture Focus Area is to create, disseminate and share cultural and technical knowledge through studies, conferences, forums, exhibitions and workshops that promote artistic creation and culture.

18,987 people attended the forums, 8,647 attended the virtual exhibitions, 2,340 participated in EnlighTED, for a total of 29,974 beneficiaries.

Additionally, the TELOS newsletter of Fundación Telefónica Movistar is an instrument to debate and discuss scientific, technological, cultural, economic and sustainability topics that have an impact on society. Editions were launched on Creadores del Mañana (Creators of tomorrow) and Fronteras. Los nuevos espacios físicos and virtuales condicionan la existencia humana (Frontiers: new physical and virtual spaces condition human existence).

Lastly, under this focus area the fourth edition of the world conference EnlightED was held, under the motto “Closing the Gaps”. International experts attended this event to speak and reflect on education, technology and innovation in the context of the pandemic, where the gaps have deepened. This event is organized under the leadership and partnership of Fundación Telefónica Movistar, IE University, Fundación Santillana and South Summit. In Colombia, the event was viewed by 2,340 users.

4. Corporate Volunteering Focus Area

Even before the Company adopted the status of BIC company, a Corporate Volunteer program was already in place, managed by Fundación Telefónica Movistar. In 2021, the program was strengthened through the incorporation of digital activities and the transfer of the methodology to other companies.

2,045 volunteers actively participated in the program (72% of whom are employees of Telefónica Movistar Colombia and 28% are external volunteers), to the benefit of 40,381 people from 131 municipalities, of which 13 are PDET territories.

The Foundation engaged in several activities as part of the Corporate Volunteering program, including the following:

Digital Literacy Meetings:

They contribute to closing the digital gap in Colombia through events aimed at the most vulnerable audiences: senior citizens, people with disabilities, people in development programs and social entities.

School Kit Delivery Sessions:

It supports the educational sector through the delivery of 607 school kits for children and families facing economic hardship for returning to classrooms.

Inclusion Activities To promote the participation of people with physical, mental and hearing disabilities.

The Christmas Campaign focused on gathering gifts from all over the country to deliver them to the most vulnerable populations of the cities.

Commemoration of the International Volunteer Day (IVD):

Training on digital literacy and learning digital tools through activities such as: Nosotros Robots (us robots), Renacer Digital (digital rebirth), ChatBooks and creation of video games.

Humanitarian Assistance Campaigns were carried out in solidarity to provide aid at specific moments and circumstances that affect different population groups. A donation of refrigerators was made to transport 2,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Corporate Volunteering Methodological Transfer to Oleoducto de los Llanos Orientales, ODL Bicentenario. Meetings were also held with Bancolombia, Fundación Carvajal, Propapel, and Universidad Compensar to continue with the objective of assisting other entities to establish and/or strengthen their own Volunteer programs.

Entrepreneurship Mentoring / Entrepreneurial Vacations:

digital activities aimed at the employees’ sons and daughters, covering topics related to video games, creative reading and museum tours.

The Robotics School:

training event for volunteers in all the regions. Involvement by social entities was achieved taking advantage of school vacations, with a methodology designed to care for people who are deaf or with mild cognitive disabilities.

Solidarity Challenges as a strategy where the volunteers undertake actions to deliver social projects in the most vulnerable areas of their respective regions.
